OKLAHOMA CITY, January 22, 2012—There were plenty of complaints for the rematch in the BCS National Championship Game between LSU and Alabama. Well we have another rematch for Super Bowl XLVI. The New England Patriots will take on the New York Giants February 5th in Indianapolis for the championship.

The two teams squared off in week nine of the regular season with the Giants winning 24-20. But this rivalry might be better known for the matchup in Super Bowl XLII. That was the year the Patriots seemed virtually unstoppable winning every regular season game (including a 38-35 win over the Giants in week 17) only to end the perfect season with a loss to the Giants in the Super Bowl 17-14.

The Patriots will get a chance to avenge that loss this year at Lucas Oil Stadium.

This will be the 10th time we have had a rematch in the Super Bowl of past Super Bowl opponents.

Pittsburgh Steelers vs. Dallas Cowboys:

Super Bowl X 21-17 Steelers; XIII 35-31 Steelers; XXX Cowboys 27-17

Miami Dolphins vs. Washington Redskins

Super Bowl VII 14-7 Dolphins; XVII 27-17 Redskins

San Francisco 49ers vs. Cincinnati Bengals

Super Bowl XVI 26-21 49ers; XXIII 20-16 49ers

Dallas Cowboys vs. Buffalo Bills

Super Bowl XXVII 52-17 Cowboys, XXVIII 30-13 Cowboys

If these games are any indication of whether we will have a good game this year, then outside of Bills/Cowboys matchup, all of them have been good games with the largest margin of victory being 10 points.

Will we have a good game this year? If it’s anything like Super Bowl XLII then we should. The Patriots aren’t nearly as dominant, but the Giants aren’t going to surprise anyone either.

Check back with the Washington Times Communities for full coverage leading up to the big game. Super Bowl XLVI will air on NBC on February 5th.
