WASHINGTON, October 16, 2013 — When DC-dwellers think music, theater, and dance, they usually think Kennedy Center, Arena Stage, the Warner and National Theaters, Studio, you know the deal. But hockey and hoops aside, DC’s Verizon Center is not just for sports. Plenty of big-name acts book the Verizon Center’s huge space, and this venue’s 2013-2014 is chock full of major events you’ll want to know about.

Fresh from a recent Verizon presser, here’s a selection of coming attractions with contact and ticket details at the end of our listings:

NIN bring Tension 2013 Tour with God Speed You! Black Emperor

October 18 at Verizon Center at 8 p.m.

Tickets are on sale now for Nine Inch Nails at Verizon Center on October 18 at 8 p.m., priced at $102.50, $78.50, $52.50 and $38.50 (plus applicable service charges).

Washington Horse Show

Washington International Horse Show October 22-27 at Verizon Center. Tickets now on sale.

The WIHS is the country’s leading metropolitan indoor horse show Each year it hosts one week of exciting, world-class competition in the nation’s capital. Spectators are invited to join in the festivities during the week and view international show jumping at its best, elite hunter competition, and the best up-and-coming junior riders in the country. VIP hospitality, boutique shopping and a silent auction add to the special experience.

Highlights of the 2013 WIHS include the $125,000 President’s Cup Grand Prix (a World Cup qualifier) presented by Events DC, on Saturday, Oct. 26; the $25,000 Puissance (high jump competition) on Friday’s Military Night, presented by The Boeing Company; and the Hermès WIHS Equitation Finals, featuring the country’s top junior riders, also on Saturday. Nearly half a million dollars in prize money and special awards will be presented at the show, including Washington favorites like special treats from Georgetown Cupcake.

WIHS is entertaining for riders and non-equestrians alike, with exciting equestrian exhibitions and community activities such as a free Kids’ Day, Thursday’s Barn Night, and the Wednesday morning Breakfast with the Mounted Police also slated to return this year.

Grammy® award-winning, multi-platinum selling, recording artist Drake has announced his 41-city North American WOULD YOU LIKE A TOUR? arena tour in support of his highly anticipated album release NOTHING WAS THE SAME, due out later this year. The tour starts Wednesday, Sept.25th at Portland’s Rose Garden Arena and will feature Grammy® award-winning R&B star Miguel, who will support on all dates along with featured special guests. Elton John returns to Washington, DC after eight years

November 14 at Verizon Center at 8 p.m.

After an eight year absence, Elton John and his band return to DC’s Verizon Center on Thursday, Nov. 14. Their 13-city tour will feature iconic hits and classic album tracks from throughout Elton John’s incredible five-decade career, as well as a selection of new songs from his highly-anticipated album, The Diving Board, which has just been released by Capitol Records.

Elton John’s band includes Davey Johnstone on guitar, Matt Bissonette on bass, John Mahon on percussion, Nigel Olsson on drums, and Kim Bullard on keyboards.

“Sir Elton, the iconic performer, makes his triumphant return to DC’s Verizon Center. Another incredible evening of hits not to be missed. This will be the musical event of the season for the Washington area,” says David Touhey, general manager of Verizon Center.

Macklemore & Ryan Lewis 2013 World Tour comes to Verizon Center

Trans-Siberian Orchestra announces winter tour

December 4, 7:30 p.m.

Trans-Siberian Orchestra (TSO) will celebrate their first 15 years of touring with an encore and final performance of their multi-platinum rock opera, “The Lost Christmas Eve.” TSO’s 2013 Winter Tour will begin on November 13th, playing over 100 shows in 67 cities across North America, presented by Hallmark Channel.

BIG 100.3, 97.1 WASH FM and Live Nation are proud to welcome TSO when they return to Washington, D.C. for a spectacular show at Verizon Center Wednesday, Dec. 4 at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are on sale now with a portion of the proceeds from every ticket benefitting a local charity.

Andrea Bocelli 2013 Winter Tour

Andrea Bocelli will return to the U.S. for a select run of concerts in December 2013 beginning December 7, 2013 at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, NV and including a December 12, 2013 show at Verizon Center in Washington, D.C. Bocelli’s holiday US tours receive “rousing ovations” year after year and continue to be among the most popular in the touring season. As the Tampa Bay Times put it, “It’s not often you can hear a crowd’s collective breath being taken away. But it happened, again and again,” making this December tour the perfect welcome to the Holiday season in the Nation’s Capital.

Hot 99.5, D.C.’s Hit Music Now, today unveiled the star-studded lineup for its second annual holiday concert, Hot 99.5’s Jingle Ball 2013, presented by The show is slated to appear here on Monday, Dec. 16, at 7 p.m. EST at Verizon Center. 

Hot 99.5’s on-air personality, Toby Knapp, has officially announced the all-star performers for Hot 99.5’s Jingle Ball 2013 which will include that perky twerker Miley Cyrus, along with Austin Mahone, Robin Thicke, Enrique Iglesias, Fall Out Boy, Paramore, Jason Derulo, Fifth Harmony and Flo Rida.

JAY Z announces MAGNA CARTER World Tour

January 16, 2014, 8 p.m.

JAY Z announced the confirmed dates for the North American leg of his “MAGNA CARTER World Tour.” The new dates, which follow the tour’s international run, will begin on Saturday, Nov. 30 and include a Thursday, Jan. 16 show at Verizon Center.

Lady Antebellum extends Take Me Downtown Tour into 2014

February 20, 7 p.m.

Seven-time GRAMMY award-winning trio Lady Antebellum has extended their headlining TAKE ME DOWNTOWN TOUR with 40 new dates scheduled for 2014. Previously announced guests for the 2013 run, Kip Moore and Kacey Musgraves, will also continue with the group for the second leg of the tour that begins Jan. 9 in Charleston, WV and includes a Feb. 20 stop in the nation’s capital at Verizon Center. The tour runs through April.

Justin Timberlake announces additional dates for The 20/20 Experience World Tour

February 24 at Verizon Center at 8 p.m.

One of this generation’s most-celebrated entertainers, Justin Timberlake, announced today he will expand his 20/20 Experience World Tour by adding new dates in Vancouver, Toronto, Chicago, New York City, Buffalo, Washington, D.C, Philadelphia, Boston, Miami and Ft. Lauderdale. The Emmy® and Grammy® award-winning musician will bring his captivating live show to fans all over the globe. 

Cher announces Dressed to Kill North American Tour 

April 4, 8 p.m.

Cher’s previous tour “The Farewell Tour,” later dubbed “The Never Can Say Goodbye Tour,” was one of the most successful tours ever by a solo artist. It played for a record-breaking 325 dates and was seen by over 5.5 million people.

Verizon Center Box Office

The Verizon Center Box Office is a full service Ticketmaster outlet with 17 windows located inside the main entrance at 601 F Street NW.

The box office will be open Mon.-Fri. from 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. After October 12th, the box office will be open on non-event Saturdays. Tickets to Verizon Center events may be purchased during regular business hours.

Children 3 years and older are required to have a ticket to all basketball and hockey games. For Disney on Ice and the circus, all children 2 years and older require a ticket. Some family shows require a different age limit for tickets. Please check with the box office for a specific family show.

Will Call opens 1 1/2 hours prior to show time or tickets can be picked up during regular business hours. On the day of the event, the box office will stay open until 1 1/2 hours after the event starts.

Tickets purchased at the Verizon Center box office only, incur a $2.00 service charge, including purchases on the day of the show.

Tickets can be purchased through the box office or any Ticketmaster outlet. They can also be purchased through Phonecharge at 1-800-745-3000 or on online at Phonecharge is open daily from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m.
