FLORIDA, February 13, 2013 — Reports are that officials found a charred body inside the cabin where the former LAPD officer-turned-suspected serial killer had his last standoff with law enforcement officials.
While officials have not yet confirmed that the body is Dorner, there does seem to be little which indicates anything to the contrary.
A San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department audio recording that details the standoff provides some hints as to what happened during those tense moments.
A reviewer at the Internet Archive site managed to partially transcribe the recording. Following is the transcript, with some quotes rearranged to run in a sequential fashion, and some grammar alterations.
01:03 John, standing by for your, uh, request for fire, whenever you’re ready.

02:09 Whoever’s talking to that firefighter who’s familiar with this house: Can you also ask him if there’d be any, uh, reason for ammunition to have been in the cabin other than from the suspect?

48:08 61-Lincoln, 61-Charlie: That’s negative. I still don’t have adequate penetration on the 2-3 or the 3-4, and I still live ammo popping.
