PHOENIX, January 18, 2012- The Obama administration announced this week that they are rejecting TransCanada’s permit application to build the Keystone XL Pipeline, a massive oil pipeline across the U.S.-Canada border.
Obama claims that the reason his administration is rejecting the Keystone pipeline is because, “the rushed and arbitrary deadline insisted on by congressional Republicans prevented a full assessment of the pipeline's impact, especially the health and safety of the American people, as well as our environment."
Prevented a full assessment? The Obama administration has had weeks to consider this pipeline. They’ve had weeks to look at the huge economic and political benefits of approving the pipeline.
Plus, did the Democrats in Congress and President Obama give the American people and the Republican minority in Congress time to evaluate the loans to Solyandra? What about Obamacare? They rammed that bill through without even looking at the negative impact it would have on the country.
So to claim that they had no time to evaluate the pipeline is simply dishonest and hypocritical.
Approving the Keystone XL Pipeline would have created tens of thousands of jobs, further diminishing the record-high unemployment rate and helping America's economic recovery.
Approving Keystone would have even helped Obama in the tough November election. It would be a clear sign that he is willing to put his liberal ideology aside and create jobs for Americans.
In the wake of Obama’s decision Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper has announced plans to visit China next month leaving the door open for Canada to create new Chinese markets for oil trade.
Obama’s decision to can the Keystone pipeline is consist with his pandering to his crazed environmentalist base. This has been the policy direction Barack Obama has taken since he took office almost three years ago.
He panders to his liberal base rather than supporting strong, new, economic proposals proving that President Obama has never been serious about job creation, nor will he ever be.
