Obamacare must not be postponed

Americans are finally having their eyes opened to Obamacare and its ramifications: Trusting this leader blindly was a huge mistake. Photo: Americans still don't know what they voted for. @iStock.com

WASHINGTON, December 24, 2013The avalanche of lies underpinning President Obama’s healthcare overhaul is finally overtaking him. When Nancy Pelosi infamously said, “We have to pass the bill so that you can find out what is in it,” even that was a half-truth. Delays, waivers, and presidential executive orders have obscured reality. Only with the rollout have Americans discovered the real nature of Obamacare.

That is exactly why Obamacare must be fully implemented — every provision — before the 2014 elections.

Little that the public knows today was known before the implementation of Obamacare. The White House and DNC have made every effort to delay and obfuscate the real bedlam until after each “next” election.

In June, 2009, then-House Speaker Pelosi said the Affordable Care Act was all about “affordable, quality, accessible healthcare for all Americans,” adding that Americans had the choice to keep what they have. From Obama on down, that mantra was repeated thousands of times.

None of it has proven true.

The employer mandate was delayed for sake of the 2012 election, but individuals did not get the same break until recently. After two delays of the sign-up deadline, the White House quietly announced that millions can get hardship exemptions if they “believe” that Obamacare’s offerings are “unaffordable.”

Instead of going down an average $2,500 as promised, insurance premiums — and deductibles — have skyrocketed. A 49-state study by Forbes concluded that “Obamacare will increase underlying premiums by 41 percent.”

Reports are that, in 2010, the Democrats already knew that millions of Americans would not be allowed keep their health plans or their doctors. Period. Nevertheless, the lie was repeated by Democratic leaders and Obama ad infinitum through the 2012 elections.

Forbes also reports that, by January 1, 2014, fewer people will have health coverage under Obamacare than before, but Pelosi and others still defend the lie like animals backed into a corner.

Obama’s rhetoric has grown transparently thin and desperate, even claiming that Republicans “rooting for failure” are to blame, knowing Democrats shut out Republicans from the get-go.

Obama’s poll numbers from Real Clear Politics — an average based on 14 polls in December — show that 54 percent disapprove of Obama’s job performance while only 42.2 percent approve. The negative spread of 11.8 points has tripled since last summer prior to Obamacare’s rollout. It is the lowest at this time in a presidency of any president since Nixon.

But Democrats will never admit that their president and their party’s signature legislation is a boondoggle of historical proportions. Rasmussen’s latest poll reports 82 percent of Democrats still approve of Obama’s job performance.

Although scandals like Benghazi, Fast and Furious, and the IRS continue to burn like uncontained forest fires, the president’s negative trend appears directly correlated to the public finally finding out what Obamacare does to them personally.

The epic failure of Healthcare.gov is only the tip of the iceberg. We still have no idea what is coming because this 2,000 pages of Democratic legislation known as the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act gives HHS carte blanche to make it up as they go.

And go they have. So far, 16,000 to 20,000 more pages of Obamacare regulations have been written, picking and choosing what to enforce on whom and when, depending on polls.

Only when Obamacare regulations impacted the marketplace did an estimated six million workers get insurance cancellation letters. And only then did people see that Affordable Care Act “compliant” replacement policies were much more expensive, had fewer choices of doctors and hospitals, and often included much higher deductibles.

As once apathetic Americans got a dose of reality instead of rhetoric, they became alarmed. A new CNN poll shows 62 percent of Americans now oppose the law — a drop of five points just since November. The key demographic, healthy young adults, are staying away in droves.

Huge employers are moving to part-time employees to avoid the mandates. That means more moms and dads and underemployed workers must now hold two jobs to make the same income, yet do not get health benefits from either employer. Predictions are that this turmoil could balloon to tens of millions of workers as Obamacare is fully implemented in 2014.

The very industry that Obama pilloried to advance his one-payer agenda is asked to cover the people whom Obamacare has thrown into healthcare chaos.

This complete pandemonium is what Obama and the Democrats dismiss as glitches.

The adminstration reports that about one million have enrolled through Obamacare federal exchanges — only one-third the projection — but even that number is highly suspect. HHS Secretary Sebelius refuses to give a hard number of how many people actually have received new insurance coverage, not just completed applications.

Still anxious to conceal the truth, Obama repeats the falsehood that Republicans offer criticism but no alternatives. Republican efforts include The Patients’ Choice Act, introduced on May 20, 2009; Empowering Patients First Act, introduced on July 30, 2009; The Patient OPTION Act introduced August 1, 2013; and The American Health Care Reform Act of September 18, 2013.

Ronald Reagan once remarked, “The nearest thing to eternal life we will ever see on this earth is a government program.”

The only chance that Americans will demand excision of the worst of Obamacare before it has metastasized is if the real unvarnished consequences of Obamacare are in full view before the coming election.

This means full implementation must continue immediately. By election 2016 it will be far too late.
