The film, produced with Schindler’s List producer Gerald Moen, took in $3.2 million at the box office last weekend for a total of $26 million to become the second highest all-time political documentary, passing Michael Moore’s Sicko and Al Gore’s An Inconvenient Truth.
The film’s unexpected box-office success even prompted the Obama campaign to issue a statement attacking the film last week as “an insidious attempt to dishonestly smear the president.”
But can D’Souza’s film provide some needed political reflection within the city’s censored walls?
That remains to be seen.
At the screening, Chicagoans will have an opportunity to ask D’Souza questions about the film and other aspects of the President’s past. The Q&A will be filmed for an episode of America’s Instant Townhall, which will air on ION Networks before the election.
