The schedule for Thursday, September 6 from the Democratic National Convention is being kept top secret for now. Only a small amount of information has been released by the Democratic Convention committee, obviously to whet the appetite of the Party faithful.
The Convention has been moved back into the Time Warner Cable Arena from the Bank of America Stadium due to rain and threatening thunderstorms in the Charlotte, N.C. area.
Only the Cable News networks and PBS will show the Convention from 7 until 11 p.m. ABC, CBS and NBC have decided to just broadcast the 10 to 11 p.m. segment of the convention.
Here is the abbreviated schedule for the evening, which is still being kept under wraps, culminating in the acceptance speeches of Vice President Joe Biden and President Obama sometime after 10 p.m. EDT:
Former Rep. Gabrielle Giffords, D-Ariz., will lead the Pledge of Allegiance.
CNN says that according to a schedule given them by an unknown DNC source, the Hollywood actresses Scarlett Johansson, Natalie Portman and Kerry Washington are to be the Convention’s surprise guests, all very young, beautiful women and no doubt meant to the antidote to the Republican Convention’s Clint Eastwood. Plus the rock band Foo Fighters is also supposedly on the roster, again another bid for the younger vote. Also being touted as performing tonight are Mary J. Blige, James Taylor and Earth, Wind and Fire.
Sometime during the evening, between 8 and 10 p.m., Charlie Crist will be at the podium, endorsing President Obama. Crist, the former governor of Florida, was a Republican who became an Independent. He ran against Marco Rubio for the Florida Senate seat and lost. Crist is now flirting with the idea of becoming a Democrat and positioning himself for another run at the governorship in 2014.
Actor Kal Penn will host a Web-only convention special that highlights famous Hollywood Democrats, including Elizabeth Banks, Aisha Tyler, Olivia Wilde, Fran Drescher, Zack Braff, Marc Anthony, and Alexis Bledel.
Actress Eva Longoria, Hispanic-American star of TV’s “Desperate Housewives,” is slated to speak during prime time, according to the Associated Press.
What is known for sure is that Vice-President Joe Biden will give a 25-minute acceptance speech around 10 p.m., followed by President Barack Obama at 10:30 p.m., who is expected to lay out his plan for America’s future in detail.
As more details are released, this site will be updated.
